Feb. 8, 2010 | - The ninety-first meeting of the Tri-City Coin Club was called to order at 6:28p.m.
- The Secretary, June Hill, Read the minutes from the January 11th meeting. Minutes were approved and seconded with no corrections. The Treasurer, Elizabeth Deeb, gave her report and it also was approved and seconded with no corrections.
- The Registrar, Danita Archer, Gave her report that tonight we would be voting on three new members and two were present:
J.C. - Has been collecting coins for many years and was involved with the first coin club in the area which met at the ball park but was disolved. Bill - J.C.'s son, his interest is to help his father J.C. to get back involved withcoins. - Both were voted into membership along with Jerry S. who could not attend but had mailed in application along with membership dues.
- Margarita Martinez gave the update on the website. There wasn't much to report except that she was making progress on the kids page and it should be up and running by next month.
- Harvey H., President of Richmond Coin Club, announced that the club was taking a bus to the Baltimore coin show on March 6th and there were still seats left. He said that whatever it is you need coin wise, they have it at the Baltimore show. Also, at the beginning of the meeting, Harvey passed out yellow postcards with information of their May coin show. - Perry B. gave a short update of the Richmond Coin Club. He stated that the club's board recently met and revised the by-laws/constitution. At their last meeting, despite all the snow and ice, they had over 50 members present. He invited everyone to attend the Richmond Coin Club's meetings and to join. He pointed out that 6 Richmond Coin Club members were in attendance at the Tri-City Coin Club's meeting because they are dual members.
- George C. gave the update on how our coin show planning is coming along. He explained that last thursday he had to make a tough decision for whether to postpone the show or keep the regular date of February 6th. So he called the coin dealers and many of them told him that they were snowed in. George made the decision to postpone the show till February 13th, 2010. The insurance policy has been changed due to the show date change and security for the show has been arranged. He informed us that out of the 42 tables originally available, 39 have been filled so far and 3 more dealers had already asked about the others. He expressed his opinion that this show was to be a good show with dealers coming from as far as Maryland and Newport News and everywhere inbetween. He ended it to tell us that they need helps to set up tables etc. Saturday from 7-10am.
- George then 'switched hats' and talked about the Virginia Numismatic Association. He explained that things were moving on and the President of the ANA would be the guest speaker at the coin show this weekend. He also informed us that the Mint was coming out with a new series of coins. The National Parks quarters and only one quarter per state. There would be five coins a year and would run for 10 years.
