The seventy-seventh meeting of the Tri-City Coin Club was called to order at 6:30pm. President, George Minson Sr., welcomed everyone and he thanked Harvey Hinson, President of the Richmond Coin Club, for inviting and bringing so many RCC members to our meeting. Secretary, June Hill, read the minutes of the November 10th meeting. The minutes were approved and seconded with no corrections. Treasurer, Elizabeth Deeb, gave the Treasurer's report and it was approved and seconded with no corrections. Registrar, Danita Archer, reported 18 Adult members, 4 Youth members, and 3 Guests in attendence. The report was approved and seconded. Perry B., informed us that our sister club, the Richmond Coin Club, went to the Baltimore tip as scheduled. He said that anyone who is serious in coin colleting, was seriously missing out by not going on the trip. Harvey H., told everyone that the Richmond Coin Club was doing very well. They have over 90 active members, and they have many registered members (I didn't get the number), and that about 50 of those members are coin dealers. RCC Website: www.richmondcoinclub.com Elizabeth Deeb, reported to us that William H., of our club, had fallen and is in the Hospital with a broken lower leg. He was scheduled for surgery December 8th. George Cash, our VNA representative, told us the 2009 VNA program is doing nicely. He had flyers at the meeting about their next show which is the 3rd week of September 2009. Mr. Cash expressed how delighted he was to see how fellow coin clubs support eachother and that all coin collectors should stick together and help eachother. OLD BUSINESS: Rodger B., is still going through physical therapy and he appreciates all the cards and phone calls. Marie G.'s surgery was successful. Please keep everyone in your prayers. The Club's website was disscussed and a motion was made for Margarita to email Jess Kilgore and have a link from the VNA website to the Club's website. It was also suggested that Margarita work on getting the clubs website into FREE search engines. NEW BUSINESS: Elizabeth reminded the members that she will have the new membership cards at the next meeting. She also informed us that June and her husband have been sick and she asks for prayers. - Next Meeting January 12, 2009
The club asked the kids to give a report on different coins they have been collecting. Margarita informed the club that she hasn't really found any nickels she didn;t have, but was currently collecting the State Quarters and only need Hawaii. (During the break paul S. gave Margarita the Hawaii quarter and she now has the full set!) George Cash gave the presentation "Has that coin been cleaned?". George started off by thanking Perry B., for filling in for him a few months ago. During the presentation Mr. Cash informed us that most coins have been cleaned. Back in the old days they had serveral different ways to clean coins, one Chemical way to clean silver was to use baking soda and water to create a paste; However, in the mid 80's, they realized that they could slab the coins instead. Mr. Cash demonstrated the different ways to Chemically clean different types of coins. Mr. Cash said that now lots of people don't like to clean coins unless they can't read the coin. But it really doesn't matter if you clean the coin depending on what kind of collector you are. George said that he personally likes a shiney coin. Its to hard to write everything that went on at the meeting with the presentation. You just need to come to the meetings yourself to get the full experience. George Cash will be giving the presentation in January 2009, Harvey Hinson in February 2009, and Perry Bragg in March 2009. KIDS DRAWING: Margarita M.
